Explain to me again why it would have been better if the government had taxed away this money so that Donald Trump could decide how to spend it instead of Bill Gates?

If I were Gates I would also be thinking about what would have had to be different in order to have been listened to over the past several years. What investment could have lessened this crisis?

YES. universities dont have a monopoly on science. Journalists dont have a monopoly in truth. Government does not have a monopoly on social welfare. At any given time, a blogger, billionare, family math tutor, or garage tinkerer can be the best source of improving the world

"you're not just learning, you're learning how to learn" is the hype so you don't just buy some books and videos and save yourself years and thousands of dollars. (I do think there's some things best learnt at university, though)

Thankfully! We will see a new world based on MERIT rather than pieces of paper, given by institutions that offer an increasingly tiny amount of benefit that comes along with the aforementioned piece of paper. The people will rise. And the world will benefit.
