Yes, I recognized that you were making an argument to people who would not be in favor of taking action to protect prisoners on its own merits. Nonetheless, I found it worth pointing out that such utilitarian arguments dehumanize prisoners...to my 3,000 followers.

I think this criticism is very misguided. Prisoners don't have the luxury of relying on puritanical arguments to get help. If you can convince people to do things that materially help prisoners, even if it's for selfish reasons, that helps them more than the symbolism hurts them.
