The reason the US government has bungled the coronavirus response so badly is not that it's starved of resources, but that it's starved of competent leadership.pic.twitter.com/YwZDGD6Kxy

Countries get the leaders they deserve. Incompetent leadership is a symptom. Not entirely sure what the cause is, but I'd be curious about @paulg hypotheses.

There's an underlying problem of partisanship, but Occam's razor says Trump won for the same reason every winning presidential candidate has since 1968. http://www.paulgraham.com/charisma.html

This implies that we just need to run someone reasonably attractive who speaks well and doesn’t give people chilly vibes to get Trump out Sigh

Another theory would be that people tend to alternate between the two parties. Bush Sr. was an exception because Reagan presided over the begining of the end of cold war. P.S. I was just a child so I couldn't have understood anything other than charm and Gore seemed phenomenal.

Do you think the nature of charisma has changed in the age of Twitter and short video clips?

Emotions guide peoples actions more than reason. Reason is papered over afterwards to make a person feel good about their choice. However at a person’s core their choices are emotionally driven.

The Westminster system is better than the US system. One reason being the prime minister's question time. It ensures the leader has a functioning brain, at least, as it'd be soon obvious if they don't.

Occam’s razor says stick to basics. By every proper metric Trump is the best performed President. Now you have your explanation for what happens in November.
