Just reading the Bel docs now and it's giving me a similar feeling to when I first read the ZMQ docs. very buddha. Also I'm noticing there might be some overlap between thinking in Lisp & thinking in shaders (GLSL)

You should really check out the Scala collections library. They are Scala's killer app. Apache Spark is the Scala collections scaled up at massive levels. And almost all mega streaming is based in Scala on these collections; Spark, Netflix, Fortnite, etc.
