Positive American thought of the day: even in the two World Wars, the US was late and slow to act initially....but mobilized rapidly and motivated its best people to figure out solutions to the hardest problems, with great results
I've been thinking how similar the situations are. The reason for the initial slowness is even the same.

It’s never a problem until it kills 2000+ Americans (same approx number in Pearl Harbor and 9/11 too)

War killed everyone evenly. This doesn’t. Difficult to convey urgency unless cable TV gets creative. There’s no fire, distress, suffering, blood or any such stuff to shock the brain. Numbers aren’t helping.
