Here's how Trump operates: he keeps coming at you, relentlessly, armed with a fabricated reality and absolute certainty, and eventually he sucks people into his cult because it's easier than constantly resisting.
There is a large group of people who don't have to resist being sucked in, who eat it up. Why? Because they hate the left so deeply. If we want to defeat him in the next election, it would be useful to ask ourselves why.

Resentment towards groups of people doing better than they are; Trump gives his followers a convenient excuse to blame others for their problems, legitimate or not. Tell people what they want to hear. A tried and true authoritarian- fascist tactic; it works.

A lot of hate of left is resentment because of left's level of higher education. Right has been taught to hate education, liberal ideas like equal rights for minorities, women's rights, & evangelicals think left is demonic/anti xian.
