I can't speak for House, obviously - no one's written clever words for me to say - but I'm pretty sure he'd tell you it's not a matter of 'solving' Covid. This is an epidemic, not a diagnostic problem. We solve it together by staying apart.

Long term it's a matter of solving it. We can't stay apart forever.

Containment now. So buy time for a cure within ideally within 3 months.

They never developed a vaccine for SARS or MIRS. (Both coronaviruses.) So don't assume they'll develop one for covid-19. Starving the virus of it's ability to spread is the only way we know to stop it. It's how China did it.

I don't think it's even that we're buying time for a solution that's a 'cure,' so to speak, but buying time until we have a real strategy that can serve as a solve- ie faster and broadly accessible testing with an emphasis on hotspots

Completely consistent statements - making them seem at odds imperils a lot of people who believe that means social distancing is the wrong thing to do *now*.

Staying apart is what solves it. If you have the virus, you'll either survive and become immune, or you'll die. This will probably take up to 4 weeks, maybe longer. So if we all stay apart for four or so weeks, the virus dies.https://twitter.com/Chris___Wilson/status/1242586373736951809 …

This Uni of Sydney study says if 80% of people comply with social distancing the virus can be controlled in 13 weeks. But if 70% comply it makes little difference, and the rate of infections continues upward steeply https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-25/coronavirus-covid-19-modelling-stay-home-chart/12084144?fbclid=IwAR3Not1zQdVUYrIB346FXm4XXUB25R148qS2GrKPCJaFtXJA2L9PtGADeP8 … via @ABCNews

Staying apart buys us enough time to create a vaccine and produce enough equipment for treatment

I have no issues with social distance; however, one needs to find a way to keep the economy alive while people keep some distance from each other.
