The "techlash" never really existed. It consisted of a few journalists, politicians, and people on the far left pretending it was a widespread phenomenon, but polls of the general public consistently showed this wasn't the case.

That may well be true, but meanwhile, tech went from selling business software to CIOs to being a central part of society. That brings policy and regulatory scrutiny that isn't going anywhere, especially in Europe.

I tend to compare this to how food, aircraft or telecoms are regulated. This has become an important part of society, and it's everywhere. So, some parts of it get laws.
