That may well be true, but meanwhile, tech went from selling business software to CIOs to being a central part of society. That brings policy and regulatory scrutiny that isn't going anywhere, especially in Europe.

I tend to compare this to how food, aircraft or telecoms are regulated. This has become an important part of society, and it's everywhere. So, some parts of it get laws.
