That has been the biggest difference between Asian countries and Western countries. Even if surgical masks can’t completely block the virus, then can substantially reduce the viral load.

I really wonder if the slow growth in Japan has all been down to everyone wearing masks. They're even starting to reopen some schools tomorrow.

Much R+D on producing masks?

my mind has actually been changed on this one. Even as a form of social signalling, it matters. And if you are sick and don't know it, which sounds more and more the case with COVID-19..

I really think we got a slow start with mask wearing because the government posted misleading (mostly correct, but framed in a misleading way) about masks, due to the shortage. I think they don't want us buying masks en mass yet, until the PPE situation with hospitals is stable

Super agree! because C19 is droplet based infection Reduces viral load on both sides Especially risk of cough or sneeze from asymptomatic patients. Reduced risk of touching face Can be visually enforced DIY & Soap washable Will crash R0 if mandated Enough evidence all

Why not? Maybe not surgical mask but wearing masks is one of the reasons East Asia is back on its feet.
