Just saw a growth graph of a startup used for remote work. That's a nice curve, I thought. Then I realized the scale on the x axis was days.

How do you evaluate investment risk on a company that’s engine of growth is an extreme but temporary state of emergency?
If it's an early stage startup working on a legit idea, then the extreme event is just what kickstarts it. It's not uncommon. SXSW kickstarted Twitter, IIRC.

Makes sense, wondering what metrics other than raw “growth” might help dig out what’s actually legit beyond extreme conditions. Retention? Qualitative eval of value prop, roadmap, team, etc?

#SXSW kickstarted Hashtags. IIRC@chrismessina couldnt make it to SXSW so he wanted to use a pound sign to keep up with the convo.@Twitter initially rejected the idea as "too nerdy". Later was adopted by more ppl and a startup and eventually folded into Twitter -
Hmm, not really factual. Certainly SXSW was a motivator, but it was the opposite. I was *at* SXSW and people NOT there, back in San Francisco, were annoyed by our tweets from SXSW — thus the need to "tag" tweets so we could target them at interested parties.
