Agree with this, though I've noticed more a Schrödinger's box sort of phenomenon: people behaving simultaneously as if they both have and don't have COVID-19. Presumably when they first catch it, they don't want it to be coronavirus, and when they get better, they want it to have been coronavirus.

Serological testing is the only valid way to track its spread. Otherwise you overlook aymptomatic transmitters, and don't actually know where the virus has spread to.

That's part of the story. The other part of the story is that you first catch it when they tell you it's not a problem and it's not widespread, and later you learn it really was widespread in your area at the time.
