Am wondering if I put too much trust in "the authorities" vs reading on Twitter. Epidemiology is not something I understand, but, if I had listened to twitter, maybe I wouldn't have coronavirus.

Institutions for determining truth always have bugs in them: 20th century institutions like WHO are full of public choice problems. Twitter is prone to mass panics, but perhaps this shows that it's bugs are less bad.

In other words, usually Twitter overreacts to everything, but human beings instinctually underreact to exponential growth, so it sort of cancels out and this platform is maybe actually somewhat well-calibrated in terms of how it's reacting.
