It may turn out that everyone (particularly students) being stuck at home causes net more good startups to be founded. Microsoft and Facebook were both started during Reading Period at Harvard, because that was when the founders had time to work on their own projects.

Isn't it ironic that people pay hundreds thousand dollars for this and we celebrate their productivity when they are doing something else?
Well, to be fair they're at college to learn, not to start companies.

Oh absolutely, they shouldn't feel entitled to start companies. But if some of them have part of their time better spent somewhere else, at current universities' prices, that makes you wonder about the effectiveness of the current academic model.

The current model is absurd for a lot of reasons. I'm not convinced that using your time effectively enough to get a degree and start a business is entitled, though. There's always going to be time better spent than in class.
