It would be interesting to see a scatterplot of when US universities cancel in-person classes vs the rank of their math department.

Assuming a high correlation, I would still wonder about the causation. I somewhat doubt that most math departments have a say in the university's policies (directly or indirectly).

I imagine it this way. Q: "Hey university administrator, math shows that we should worry. Should we?" A: "No. As deconstructivist theory teaches us, math is a tool of oppression." vs A: "Well, our math department is good so I can't insult math. We'll have to think about it."
