I'm deeply wont to believe that Conservative vs. Liberal mindset "this too shall pass" vs. "proceed with caution" will play a *much* bigger role in closures than Math department rankings. Maybe you want to see the correlation between liberalism and Math rankings, instead!

More like epidemiology and/or applied math and/or biomes statistics, but general point taken. Also physics is much more relevant than pure math, because they model things. Mathematicians are mostly not empiricists.
