It would be interesting to see a scatterplot of when US universities cancel in-person classes vs the rank of their math department.

It would be interesting if the math department had that much influence over an entire university.
I'm not suggesting anything as specific as that, just that universities with good math departments are more likely to have numerate faculties and administrations.

I'm deeply wont to believe that Conservative vs. Liberal mindset "this too shall pass" vs. "proceed with caution" will play a *much* bigger role in closures than Math department rankings. Maybe you want to see the correlation between liberalism and Math rankings, instead!

More like epidemiology and/or applied math and/or biomes statistics, but general point taken. Also physics is much more relevant than pure math, because they model things. Mathematicians are mostly not empiricists.
