What the New York Times says I said, vs what I actually said. Compare for yourself, and decide how much you trust the Times as a source.pic.twitter.com/x0vK74eXEz

Unfair to claim the entire paper is untrustworthy because on one reporters error.

This is not the first time the NYT has done this.

indeed, the New York Times does this constantly, and doesn’t appear to have any serious desire to retract such quotations or penalize the reporters making them. It’s kind of disgusting. they even got rid of the public editor position, the ombudsman monitoring such things.

There's no ombudsman anymore? I didn't know that. Makes sense though...

They eliminated the Public Editor position some time ago. A lot of people criticized that, as during the relatively brief period there was one, the measure was effective. That might, of course, be part of why they eliminated it.

Regardless, however, the Public Editor was one of the more useful reforms they implemented after the Judith Miller scandal in the run-up to the Iraq war, and the fact that they got rid of having one doesn't speak well to their desire to make sure it doesn't repeat itself.

Think they said Twitter was their public editor so need for that role anymore. Regardless, wouldn't have mattered. They have a narrative they start with and hope to fit certain facts in it.
