A friend pointed out that one reason the coronavirus death rate in Italy is so high is that the population is so old. 21.7% are 65 or over, vs 14.6% in South Korea.

What's the population age distribution in the affected areas in Japan? To my knowledge, northern Italy is particularly old. As is the very south.
