It’s concerning how many people believe that success is mostly luck and that hard work doesn’t matter. Luck is a factor, but it’s not an excuse, and if you want to make excuses then go for it. But if you want to work hard and build amazing things, great. We need more of you.

Indeed. Annie Duke is a great explainer on this subject: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/biggerpockets-podcast-297-mastering-decision-making-process-business-and-world-series-pokerchampion-annie-duke … (this podcast is, IMO, better than the a16z one)
#CriticalAnalysis requires understanding how much luck was a factor in an outcome (vs good strategy).Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

What irks me is when people look at the luck variable and reason that they can’t affect success because of it. There are plenty of other variables that they have much more control over. Luck matters. But it’s part of the equation, and people should optimize the other inputs.

Or rather, isn’t it that by tinkering with all the other inputs we optimize the chance for getting lucky? It’s like farming, or gardening. You plant a bunch of seeds, knowing that some won’t sprout, and others might. You hedge your bets. By navigating other inputs, we farm luck

Like lucky you weren’t born into the beginning of a war in a war zone. Or worse

Definition problem. Humans perceive luck as the outcome, not the actual probability of success (factor). So to be considered lucky you can just increase the attempts. Which, is other words, means work hard or accept new challenges more often.https://marcotrombetti.com/luck
