Considering that many US tech giants ignore user privacy concerns or resort to unfair trade practices and the potential snooping by government in China, what EU is doing brings some sort of balance and accountability.

The main reason tmho US companies rule the Internet is that they knew how to use capital better than the rest of the world to grow faster. Nobody says faster is better. But it is faster...

Well, the is the small issue of having the biggest population in the western world ... 4 times the size of any European country.

The internet couldn't have started anywhere but in the US (freedom of expression + pop culture), but its future version will be better off thanks to regulation, we're probably at the low point (PII abuse, fake news, flame wars, etc.), and it'll get better.

It took a British invention to make a real use out of an American one. The internet without the web wouldn’t be the internet we know today. Web is internet’s killer app.

Slippery slope there w.r.t. "real use" IMHO but sure, web popularized it. I am not sure if the web in it's "current" form is, from a technical PoV, good, bad, or horrendous. Again, all IMHO. Cheers! 😊
