I don't care about where linebreaks end up, but I wouldn't want there to be too many characters per line. That's a typesetting error.

How about fixing the longstanding threaded messages UI issue on HN posts. The fact that successive replies to comments keep moving to the right, like Pascal's triangle. NNTP and email clients solved it ages ago. All you have to do is adopt and adapt it, AFAIK. LMK if wrong.
