I read her point a little differently, Portia did you mean that nerds these days are more often the bullies than the bullied? Or something else? (There is a cycle of abuse in bullying, IMHO. Can be dangerous for the bullied to have power... cf. classic superhero villain trope :)

The original tweet invites us to imagine nerds as the bullied underdog and that narrative is distorted and dated. Today nerds call the shots on wall street, on capitol hill, and hollywood. We're a far cry from the days of "Revenge of the Nerds".

I think this is true, but it also means that any nerds who join in mobs against other nerds do realize that they're attacking a strong target but proceed anyway.
