Is it really the case that we’ve made no substantial progress on cancer? The current age-adjusted mortality rate is the same as in 1930, and the recent decline only tracks the fall in smoking.https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/the-cancer-industry-hype-vs-reality/ …

Might be to do with the face we have a lot more causes for cancer to go along with the earlier detection.

What about vaccination for HPV which causes cervical cancer? All girls in Australia are given it.

Good analysis from @slatestarcodex from late 2018, concludes there is probably small but non-zero progress (modulo smoking reduction)https://slatestarcodex.com/2018/08/01/cancer-progress-much-more-than-you-wanted-to-know/ …

Lead time bias. Meaning: “You now live longer an average of 2 years longer with tumor X because by the meerest coincidence we’ve gotten good at spotting tumor X about 2 years earlier than we used to. You’re welcome!”

We have a medical industrial complex. This 'progress' we see is largely better detection, not better treatment. Tumor size has also plummeted in recent decades. Simply put, we catch cancer earlier. https://twitter.com/pradyu_singh/status/1228560975520886785?s=21 … https://twitter.com/pradyu_singh/status/1228560975520886785 …

I strongly disagree with this characterization. 1) Innovation in cancer treatment is incremental, but they add up. The notion of a cancer moonshot is silly 2) look at some of the more lethal cancers like Pancreas. The improvement is multiple fold https://twitter.com/ani_pai/status/1228557495515242497 …

The cause of cancer isn’t being researched. Inflammation is caused by vegetable oils, lectins, wheat, sugar, alcohol. People with inflammation are more likely to get cancer. Causation not proven. Big pharma don’t want it cured, big food want maximum addictive foods for profit.
