Not sure I agree with this
@paulg. Classic writing instruction is that the first sentence of the paragraph should be the topic sentence for the paragraph. A good topic sentence makes it easier to scan a document, especially on second read. What is the problem you see here?

Thanks, Paul. I love the river metaphor for writing that you use. I think I focused more on business writing, where I would argue efficiency trumps beauty. That HS framework--I had it too--"tell 'em what you're going to say, say it, tell 'em what you said" form transmits well.
