The #1 cause of startup death is making something no one wants. The #2 cause is spending too much. Those two account for so many deaths that I'm not even sure what #3 is. If you merely make something people want and don't spend too much, you're way ahead.

If someone could build a solution that enables uploading a document, like a resume, to actually replace manually typing all the same info, rather than duplicating the work, I know thousands of people that would he be happy.

Or... you can observe people and talk to them (user research). Making products you can use is a strategy but if you are white, 30-50 years old, cis-gendered male, straight, and/or able-bodied, you are really limiting yourself in today’s market (IMO).

By building for a market that isn’t yourself, you might force yourself to listen to users and the data, and avoid building something that nobody wants or isn’t usable.
