Whenever the ads come on, my kids think the TV is broken.
My then 5 year old son saw TV ads for the first time when we watched the World Series in 2014. I had to explain what they were. I said an ad was a short movie to convince you to buy something. He was surprised this was allowed.

This happened to me in 3rd grade. I moved from a poorer part of OR to a wealthier one. I was really confused by a kid in school wearing a coca-cola t-shirt (not plain colors), I asked him if he was being paid. We got in a heated discussion with my opinion he should be paid.
