Journalists don’t sit down with senior officials to score political points. We do it in the service of asking tough questions, on behalf of our fellow citizens. And then sharing the answers—or lack thereof—with the world.

I don't think I would have stated that first sentence so explicitly. You're inviting people to ask "Hmm, is that true?" and really it isn't. I'm no fan of Pompeo, but journalists regularly say things to score points rather than in a disinterested search for truth.
