If you could, that would be a startup I'd sign up for in a second. But you'd have to get a lot of details right. There are clues in bindings, for example. (You can in fact judge a book by its cover, among other things.)

I don't know for sure, but there are a lot of babies in used bookshops that I can imagine getting thrown out with the bathwater by someone clueless (= someone who hasn't spent hundreds of hours in used bookshops) trying to make something "better."
