When someone replies to a statement you made by calling you names, they're implicitly saying that's it's true. Otherwise they could have shown why you were wrong.

Come to think of it, it's an interesting question: Is it worse to be thought to be stupid or to be thought to be dishonest? I would rather have people think that I'm stupid, but I'm not entirely sure that isn't simply because I could disprove that more easily.

They might also simply believe that you are too stupid to be edifying to argue with... there are a lot of reasons this axiom is more self-serving than true.
