        Twitter mobs might just be an early form of "free market justice" by which a society can enforce social norms rather than enforce w/ laws (a plus). Like many early markets it is quite inefficient, but as participants we collectively decide the equilibrium.

        Consider the idea that, contra this article, social media virality incentivizes editors to publish articles that ”detonate an explosion on social media.” The writer‘a own incentives are mixed, but publications have every reason to publish controversies, to a point.
