I tend to write short concise posts. One reason to write longer essays is when readers are looking for an excuse to reject a claim. Then you might try to cover all their excuses in one essay. That can also be a reason to write a book supporting a claim.
One solution is to put the anti-troll armor (e.g. qualifications charitable readers wouldn't need, pre-emptive refutations of probable attacks) in end-notes. Then they don't get in the way of ordinary readers.

Sure, if you can flag them clearly enough in the main text that folks who have that concern feel obligated to go to those endnotes.
