Every time I get an email saying "just bumping this up in your inbox," it reminds me of the huge startup that's missing.

Because you haven't responded (your lack of action), or because your email client hasn't properly filtered out (you're not interested), or because of some sort of communication medium problem (email failing) ?

We really need to find a way of making email reliable again (thanks, insanely aggressive spam filters.) And maybe a bit richer - allowing 'bump' / 'ping' type messages as a separate thing, maybe? I'm still intrigued by https://cr.yp.to/im2000.html ..
