I think the degree of taboo decreases exponentially with each level of indirection. By this point it's outweighed by confusion.

Introducing multiple layers of indirection also acts as a kind of filter for thoughtfulness. I'd expect the sort of folks who can follow long chains of logic are more likely to be the sort who aren't deterred by taboos.
