As a career Counsellor, I ask students and the parents to read your high school speech. Though none of them are able to read it due to the length of it, but I make sure I highlight the core idea!
Hmm, maybe I should make a shorter version. What length will they read?

Something like they say about video making: The first one second attracts me to watch it for 10 seconds, first 10 seconds attracts to me strech it to a minute. After a minute, I am hooked! Something like: What you can look forward to in this essay would also help!;

That's the problem with the modern day schooling. :'( There was a reason why you thoght that length was appropriate, right? If the reason is still valid, keep it. Do NOT Dumb It Down!
