I bet its users are, on avg, the most satisfied of all the social media sites/platforms

Reddit has a long way to go. Crazy how the platform grips you once you start using it actively and keeps you engaged due to interesting UGC. Funny how Social Media/Communities(HN & Reddit) persist in long run if they focus on a particular niche(s) and have somewhat bad UX.

I think the bad UX actually contains the amount of newcomers, maintaining the sense of a tight knit community. You need to learn the codes before you get in the loop

Number of google searches is a terrible metric for users. Facebook has over 7x as many active users as reddit.pic.twitter.com/VIKRVxGK3l
-
Don't forget. If you sign into Yelp (for example) and Facebook's Like button is even rendered (not clicked), or if you're auto-logged in through Facebook Login because it finds a dormant Facebook cookie, you're now an active user. It feels like they inflate those numbers a bit.

This seems to be built on data from Google trends. I think Reddit is so dominant because many people search for posts using Google (famous "reddit search is broken" meme). I'd take this with a huge grain of salt.

It's relative to it's own peak, not absolute comparison to others.

The wonky path of reddit predecessor http://Digg.com illustrates how important execution is, as well as continued innovation.

I worked on Reddit at Conde Nast. That first Reddit liftoff was when Digg died. Digg decided to let publishers connect RSS feeds, and the community revolted. We had connected the reddit front page RSS feed into Digg. 2 days later, Reddit took over Digg's HP and traffic.
