Many if not most "luxury brands" prey upon people who have lots of money but don't know how to live, and hope they can use cost as a sort of compass to guide them to the good life.

Plenty of things that help people today are the result of curious past inventions that originally had no use at all. So, leave the "or". Let people just Make Things (as long as nobody gets hurt), regardless of whether or not value judges like your see the value in them *today*.

And AirBnB with its ‘experiences’ and luxury listings is not preying on peoples fantasies? A lot of luxury brands also provide a high quality product and leadership in aesthetic taste.
