It's not because startups require multiple different skills that it's a good idea to have cofounders. The main reason you need cofounders is to share the weight of doing something so hard.

Absolutely agree. Without my cofounder I may have lacked courage. I always think his benefit is in being a sounding board and help, but the “being bolder” point is 100% key!

How to choose cofounders? Do they normally come from same workplaces/backgrounds? What do the stats say on this? Common idea I heard in entrepreneurship class in college was that a lot of startups fail because of cofounders not having the same vision.

It would be better that a cofounder is honest and very moral, otherwise staying at home might be better.

Agreed 100% - I’m much more of a coward than I’d like to admit, and my cofounder is the main reason I’ve had the strength to grow our company over the last few years.

The only bias comes when angel investors insist on a MANDATORY TECH CO-FOUNDER. Don't investors believe delivery by non tech co-founders in a start up?

Painting with broad brushes: in your experience is the argmax two cofounders (and why)?

It's very helpful to have 2 or 3 founders rather than 1. But except in certain specialized domains, more than 3 is often a sign of fear or cluelessness.
