It's scary how bureaucracy works. In the end, it is important just that the numbers match. Many times, the authorities need a confession, no matter if it is false or true, just to officially close the case. The responsibility is spread and nobody is guilty.

I am totally opposed to the death penalty. This article is no argument against the death penalty though. It is an argument against a corrupt jurisdictional system but has nothing to do with the kind of penalties that follow.
