One of the big differences between my children and myself as a child is that my kids never want to leave the house. When I was a kid, you had to go out to watch movies or eat pizza or (I'm that old) play video games. Now they come to you.

As a parent, I wish I knew whether I should worry about this. I don't love it, but maybe I'm just old fashioned. As an investor, I see this trend is self-reinforcing and has a long way to run. So "let people do x at home" = a good startup idea for surprising values of x.

we develop our perception of ourselves in contrast by comparison with other human beings, so meeting more is probably better.

...and, as I would describe it, you can teach your kids only things that are present in your own model of the world, but other models will certainly be interesting for them too, and I mean not derived info but first-hand perceptions, as seeing, feeling, hearing, smelling...

I've witnessed myself going from fighting my parents to stay at home until ~14yo to fighting them to go out with friends now (17yo), so I'd say it depends on age.

I'd also say that the "when we were your age we spent most of our time playing on the streets" and generally trying to get kids out of the house "just because" it's useless. If they're getting enough social interaction, whether they do so in or out is irrelevant IMO

But do you think we should embrace this trend as just the new state of the world or challenge it?

Off-topic: "for surprising values of x" sounds a lot like @patio11 writing style. Wondering the direction of the influence here. On-topic: I worry we loose community bringing everything to home. I am trying to find an idea for x = community.

Not enough sunlight causing kids to have weak eyes and hence spectacles. That’s one negative.

Eyewear has been a growth industry for decades. And "let people buy glasses at home' is one of those surprising values of x.
