Told 7 yo I wrote an essay about having kids. He asked if there was anything about him in it. I showed him the paragraph where I said that you don't just love your kids, but they become your friends too. He had a big smile reading that.

as a parent it becomes clear to me that you also rediscover your own parents as you experience parenthood. they’ll be very lucky to discover your essays when the time is right.
Part of the reason I wrote that essay is so that when they read it later they'll realize how much I enjoyed being their father.
