Ideally try to build a relationship with customers that doesn't go through a single platform. E.g. get them to come directly to your web site.

In emerging markets where Facebook, WhatsApp, YouTube 'are' the internet, this is presenting a unique challenge to local start-ups. It doesn't help that these platforms come at lower data costs aided by MNOs crippling the competitive space.

Watch them hold entire countries and governments to ransom. Glad China spotted this quickly a few years ago, and threw out Google. They made the right choice. Google cannot be trusted with search, e-commerce and political neutrality.
