I really, desperately would like your thoughts on the following: Success in business requires independence of thought. But company cultures, customers and even VCs increasingly demand orthodox answers to orthodox questions. How does one combine these two realities?
Customers don't care about orthodoxy per se, and good VCs don't either. And the fact that big company cultures demand orthodoxy is a big part of the reason startups can succeed.

Another view is that a Corporate's modus operandi is to squeeze down on error - which includes high(er) Levels of compliance. A startups purpose is to experiment. These are opposites that (rarely) exist together.
