It would be convenient if you could do great work by working only moderately hard. Maybe there are some people who can. But I can't think of any.

Total work = total time of sustained focus × intensity of focus. Maximizing time at work is a strategy, better strategy is instead to max time in flow state (3-10× focus). Choosing well what to work on is more important than working long (which is often an indicator of bad choices instead). Working long doesn't scale. Making choices does.
