Does the sentence "Install the app to set up your device and create an account" scare you? It sure scares me. To me it means "You will spend the next hour dealing with complicated things that don't work."
Update: It took about an hour and a half. Parkinson's Law seems to be in effect here. If it took a day to set up a new device, that would seem intolerable, and get fixed. But once you cross the line of tolerable, pressure to fix problems drops dramatically.
By default, the time and effort required to set up a new device will be just short of intolerable.

I've been around technology long enough to shudder at sentences like that.
Now imagine in emerging markets like Africa where very cheap entry-smartphones are everywhere & data costs are extremely high, the thought of even downloading the app kills its prospects right off, leaving millions of potential users. We worked around this @flex_tx

Hard to model to anything in real life. Possibly going to the dentist/doctor is as close as it gets. "Fill out this form and the doctor will be right with you."
