@paulg just read your essay on nerds: I like most of your points and can relate with my own experience, but you don’t really give a solution (I also don’t see one). How do you feel about your own kids going through that experience? Any plan to make it less harmful?
I warn them a lot about the forces at work. And we don't live where I grew up.

I didn’t grow up in the US but think your description applies more broadly. I’m curious of what warning can do, and in general it’s interesting the question of if it’s helpful to know you are in a certain situation but still not be able to do anything about it, more so as a kid
