I enjoyed this essay, but you should probably acknowledge that YC explicitly selects for people whose default attitude to everything is to look for a way to hack around it. It's literally a question on the application.

Right, I'm not saying it's bad per se; I'm saying it's not surprising that people in that sample reacted that way. On its own that would not be strong evidence to support claims of a society-wide cause. Startup culture selects for this just as surely as college admissions.
