Same meeting cld be asked for to happen in my office, which several have. But if you step up to me & say, "Let me take you to lunch" to help you, w/ the mind of me bearing cost, then you've constituted yourself into one w/ right over my money, time, energy and attention. No way!

I think this is not a question of who really pays the cost of lunch. It's about mindfulness, respect and to some extent, fighting the spirit of entitlement.
