Startup idea for whoever wants it: Now that formerly neutral(ish) "newspapers of record" have been forced to pick a side to avoid going out of business, there may be room for a new publication to serve that need. Can't say for sure it will work, but it's a beachhead.

Formerly neutral(ish) "newspapers of record" forced to pick a side to avoid going out of business is not a good description of what is happening. For one thing, it fails to account for facts so bad that simply reporting them seems like picking a side— when it is not.
By "pick a side" I don't mean Democratic vs Republican (where what you say is largely true) but left vs right (where it isn't).

All theoretically left leaning papers lean center and sometimes right to compensate for their theoretical leftness with ugly results. And the Tines keeps the right wing elite barely alive through its op-ed page. I don't know what you're talking about because you don't.
