All other things being equal, avoid "strategic" investors. What that word "strategic" means is that they have ulterior motives that are unlikely to be aligned with yours.

In the slack case: Isn't diversification a good idea for them as an investor? Shouldn't they want some of the apps they support to de-platform?

This is so true & so very counter-intuitive at first. I made this mistake; thinking that “strategics” are the best investment because you will have so much advantage but the reality is 99% of the times, it’s just a bad cocktail of mixed agendas that don’t go together.
