Painters look at a painting upside down to notice flaws they've gotten used to. When you're writing something, you can get a similar effect by changing the margins.

On my first book, I didn't read it out loud until I recorded the audio version. Definitely caught some needlessly complex sentences that would have benefited from more simplicity and clarity. Lesson learned.

At my first job, I had to proofread academic journal articles prior to publishing. Including capitalization and punctuation. "Initial cap at my first job comma I had to..." Usually tedious, but sometimes helped find errors and weirdness.

Great one. We also got the habit of printing the text to catch typos. Always more efficient than reading on the screen (we used recycle paper and optimised toner).
