(a) It's not just the cognitive load, it's the dishonesty. (b) Having to remember something multiplies cognitive load by the time over which you remember it.
Also, I'm in the business of noticing this kind of brokenness, because it's the sign of a missing startup.

I believe it's a local maximum. But when you have to do something so clumsy and dishonest, that's a sign that there is a better overall model.
